Marathon of Purpose

"As we run, we become". Amby Burfoot

I have a friend of a friend who is an avid marathon runner. Now personally, I cannot understand why someone would choose to run over and over again for fun. I even questioned if this person knew what the word” fun” really meant. When he explained the process and purpose of the marathon, all of sudden, things clicked.

When you make the decision  to run a marathon the first thing you have to do is TRAIN…. And train so more. The training is no small feat leading up to the big race. It requires you to push past your limits both physically, mentally and emotionally. You start out with small distances and increase gradually building up your endurance and stamina. Your body begins to adjust to the new normal of being stretched beyond what was once impossible.

After training, the day has come for you to show up and show out. Everything you learned has prepared you for this moment. Those sore muscles, rest days, encouraging pep talks when you wanted to quit have all gotten you where you are.....

The whistle is blown and the marathon has begun, you start out strong. In every marathon there is point where your body and mind wants to quit, you start to slow down and gasp for air.  You think you have failed…… But wait your spirit is cheering you on to keep going. You start back up with all your strength, rejoin the marathon, keeping your steady pace. A few feet away is the finish line but to you it feels like miles. You pick up speed carefully, eyes laser focused only on your lane, remembering your task to complete your race. The last stretch, you surrender your mind and body and cross that finish line. The crowd is buzzing with electrifying screams of cheer. You look back to watch others that were behind you cross the finish line. At the end of the race, a medal was placed around your neck to signify a job well done.

Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬ ‭ says,”Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

This message is for you and there is a reason why you are here. You are embarking on a marathon of purpose in which  God is preparing you for. Training is in session. Don’t let the challenges that come along with it, discourage you. Don’t give up and don’t give in, your faith is attached to a big WIN! The big race is approaching. Your reward is waiting!

Thank you for reading! Stay encouraged. Stay in the race. Your big FINISH is coming. God declares it.!!!!
