Have you ever had something, someone, or some opportunity come into your life and you were not sure how to proceed? Which direction should I go? Is God saying stay still or move forward? Or maybe,you even go as far as asking, "Is this from Christ or a Counterfeit from the enemy? "
The ol’ folks used to say, “ the enemy knows just what you want. He will send it”. Boy were the ol folks right. For years, I went on to understand just exactly what they meant by that phrase. Now ,I constantly ask myself all the time when a person, thing, idea or opportunity of any kind comes my way, is this Christ or a Counterfeit?
Take a second to think of a past relationship, job opportunity or promotion, friend/ family group discussion, marital disagreement, etc. Would you say it was Christ or a Counterfeit?? Not really sure? Let me break it down.
Anything that is related or connected to Christ aligns with his Word and teachings. For example,”do not steal, kill, cheat or lie. Christ would not steer you to do or get involved with something that is contrary to his Word. When it is from Christ,you have peace, clarity, and acceptance.
A counterfeit is something that is a fake posing to be the real thing. To be clear, counterfeit’s are not real but if you’re not careful,it may fool you. This could be a one night stand posing to be your husband, or wife, your new idol posing to be a new job or higher salary that takes you away from spending time with God or a user posing to be family or a friend. By the time you realize the counterfeit, you may find that it is too late.
The question is,how do we tell the difference between the two? How are we to know whether the opportunity sent to us is from Christ or a Counterfeit? Below is a helpful verse and several questions to ask yourself to make the distinguish the two:
Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.”Matthew 7:15
Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”
Matthew 7:20 NIV
Does it align with God’s word and teachings?
Does it bring you closer or drive you away from God?
Has God confirmed it? Or have you?
Is it something God already delivered you from before?
In order to live a life of purpose, we must be able to know the difference between Christ and things posing to be like Christ . Lots of us experience years of delay settling for a counterfeit. Yes, I know it’s easy and great in the beginning, but in the end, it’s a slippery slope to a dead end. And let me tell you, It is nothing compared to the real thing CHRIST has for you.Maybe you fell for the the COUNTERFEIT....... IT IS OKAY. It happens to the best of us. Don’t let that discourage you. Stand up tall, dust yourself off, and come back harder. Keep going! Pretty soon, you will be an expert at spotting the counterfeits from miles away.
