Remember those old recipes that your mother or grandmother use to make? Weren’t they just the best? They were so full of love, comfort and sweet memories. Each bite was full of warmth and gentle care. No matter what, each recipe always seemed to have a secret ingredient.
This is evident for our daily Christian living. There is also a special ingredient that we all must include is nexeasary on this walk we all have been called to… that special ingredient is FAITH!
I know. I know! But hear me out! Imagine the first bite you took into grandmas homemade pies and cakes. It was divine. It would be nothing without the special ingredient. What if you applied this same concept to your
faith?
It’s impossible to please God apart from faith. Faith is an essential piece of our relationship with Jesus. Your grandmothers recipe had all the right sugar and spices but Jesus requires faith. No matter how many times we remade that good ole recipe, if we did not have that essential ingredient, it wasn’t the same.
This rings true for Christ. We can do all the things on our own but without faith, it won’t work or be as effective as is should be.
Hebrews 11 reminds us of countless everyday people like us who blazed the unknown trails, using the special ingredient of faith. “By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.” (Hebrews 11:4) “By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.”(Hebrews 11:7 NIV) “By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, “even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”(Hebrews 11:17-18 )
The phrase, “by faith” is repeated over a dozen times in this chapter of the Bible. Why you might ask??? "without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”(Hebrews 11:6 )This is because faith is the key and must be the main special ingredient that we practice in each area of our lives in this Christian journey. We have to choose faith over facts willingly.
Could it be that the doubt, anxiety, depression, stagnation, and worry you are experiencing is the result of leaving faith out? Life has you stressed out and you are about to give up. Maybe it’s time to get up and get in the kitchen, find your recipe book (Bible) and add in the best ingredient there is…. FAITH. Let’s cook up something new and different. Remember your faith is Fully And Inevitably Trusting Him.
